Foremost Insurance surveyed their claim adjusters and asked: If there was one thing you could tell a customer about preventing a fire, what would it be? Results showed a common theme of three overlooked fire hazards in the home: cooking, candles and extension cords. Fire extinguishers and smoke detectors also topped the list as ignored prevention items.
“It’s so important to make people aware of these simple, but taken-for granted causes of fire,” Says Dennis Squibb, AVP Specialty Claims and Farmers CAT Response. “Our adjusters unfortunately see devastating fire losses and damage that didn’t have to happen. Their advice is worth sharing.”
As a result of the survey, Foremost developed an interactive fire safety page that highlights prevention tips from their claim adjusters. They hope to help people avoid the damage and distress that a fire can cause by making consumers aware of these five simple ways to prevent fires.
“It’s a memorable and visual way to help raise awareness and remind homeowners to avoid these common mistakes,” continues Squibb.
